Paris: Invalides

The Hotel des Invalides is now home to the Museum of armies, bringing an artillery museum and part focusing on the history of the French army. Built for disabled soldiers, it still fills that role today. There is also a cemetery where soldiers are buried.

Its construction was ordered by Louis XIV, February 24, 1670 He wanted a place to house the military became disabled. They were previously housed in abbeys that life did not suit many of them. It was also to improve the image of the military among the population because some disabled veterans became homeless ...

The building was designed by the architect Liberal Bruant. His project was chosen by the king from the eight that were presented to him. The construction began in 1971 and the first residents were received three years later, even though construction was not completed. There integra a church, that of Saint-Louis-des-Invalides. The soldiers were treated pretty well, but we had several match the selection criteria set by the king to be accepted.
