Madrid: Retiro Park

Retiro Park is a public park with a surface of 118 hectares. These gardens were once reserved for the king, for leisure. You can admire many statues, installed along a "walk of statues."

The park was laid out in the seventeenth century, around the Buen Retiro Palace. It was a royal residence outside Madrid, in an environment leaving room for nature and enjoyed sovereign. It was built during the reign of Philip IV, on land provided by the Count-Duke of Olivares.

The area had several other buildings, such as the theater of the Buen Retiro, which played parts considered masterpieces, written by authors such as Pedro Calderon de la Barca. Today, one can also visit the Army Museum, the exhibition kingdoms (notable for its interior paintings) or a former ballroom, ke Cason del Buen Retiro.

Retiro Park is open daily from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. to midnight from May to September.

Of Parque Retiro, Madrid

Line 1 of the metro provides access to Retiro Park thanks to Atocha and Atocha Renfe stations.
The metro line 9 provides access to the east side of the park through the Ibiza resort.
Finally the Metro Line 2 stops in the park in the Retiro station
